Incredible Moment Police Dog Performs CPR On A Fallen Officer

It’s easy to assume that only humans are capable of saving lives. We are responsible for the existence of hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and other life-saving creations. However, there are certain skills which we share with other living beings – skills which we have been using to our advantage since the dawn of time. Take dogs, for example, their keen sense of smell has prevented countless potentially disastrous situations.

But man’s best friend has a lot more to bring to the table than just their sense of smell. Dogs are also intelligent and have been estimated to be as clever as two-year-old children. While this might not sound like a lot, if you take into consideration how many words and gestures two-year-olds can understand, it’s actually very impressive, and one police dog has shown how smart he is with an incredible CPR performance.

Yes, you read that correctly, a dog actually learned how to perform life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The dog in question, Poncho, however, was no ordinary pooch and had already proven himself to be an extremely talented member of Madrid’s police force.

To see Poncho leap into action when his officer collapses, check out the video below:

As this incredible footage demonstrates, those watching Poncho were amazed and immediately erupted into applause when he began to perform CPR. My favorite part of the video is when Poncho repeatedly checks to see if his office is breathing in between chest compressions.

And if you look closely, the adorable pooch even has a flashing light on his back!

Tweeting about the clever pooch, Policía de Madrid wrote:‏

“‘Heroic’ performance of our #Compañerosde4Patas Poncho, who did not hesitate for an instant to ‘Save the Life’ of the agent, practicing #RCP in a magisterial way.”

The police department then followed this tweet up by quoting 19th-century American humorist, Josh Billings:

“The dog is the only being in the world that will love you more than you love yourself.”

Good job, Poncho! You’ve just given a whole new meaning to the term good boy.
