These Celebrity Holiday Homes In The Caribbean Are Likely To Be Hit By Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma, which has generated winds of over 185 mph, has caused much devastation throughout the Caribbean. In fact, it has been the most destructive Atlantic Ocean hurricane in living history. Buildings have been left completely destroyed and at least ten people have died as a result of the violent storm. Unfortunately, it is likely that many more deaths are yet to be discovered.

Barbuda, a tiny island in the Eastern part of the Caribbean is said to be practically uninhabitable and authorities maintain that the island of Saint Martin is almost entirely destroyed.

Hurricane Irma has proven to be a very destructive force and has even been referred to as a category five hurricane by experts. As of now, the hurricane is around the Dominican Republic, but it has been estimated that it will be reaching Turks and Caicos soon.

The Caribbean is known for being a paradise on Earth – with its stunning beaches, gorgeous weather and astounding views. Which is why many celebrities tend to purchase holiday homes in the region.

However, these celebrities are now fearing that the their homes will be part of the slew of properties that have either been destroyed or will be destroyed by the hurricane.

US President Donald Trump has a very lavish and expensive mansion in St Martin and it has reportedly been hit by the storm. The mansion is said to be worth $28,156,400!

The president said that he was concerned about the severity of the storm. He told reporters at the White House: “But it looks like it could be something that will be not good. Believe me, not good.”

However, even Trump’s homes in Florida could be under threat as the storm is set to hit the US state.

The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Brown said that much of Barbuda’s architecture has been destroyed and that it has left approximately 60% of the population homeless.

An expert at the University of Colorado maintains that Hurricane Irma is the second storm  to keep up a windspeed of over 185 mph for more than 24 hours, (after typhoon Haiyan in 2013.)

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have their own private island in the Bahamas where they hosted a wedding party shortly after tying the knot. The storm could also be heading to their holiday home.

The following picture is of Necker Island, which is in the British Virgin Islands and is owned by Richard Branson. The Virgin Atlantic founder’s home is also not exempt from the threat sweeping across the Caribbean.

Branson’s son Sam Branson wrote on Instagram: “Glad to say that all humans on Necker are ok although a lot of buildings destroyed. Very concerned for our friends and everyone on the neighboring islands and people in its path. Please don’t take this hurricane lightly if it is heading your way.”

While it is not unexpected for a series of storms to develop in the same areas around the Atlantic, the sheer power of the winds is unprecedented. The US was subjected to the devastating Hurricane Harvey when it hit Texas and now Hurricane Irma is set to reach the US from the Caribbean. While there is little we can do to fight the storms, we can only hope effective action is taken to help those hit by the hurricanes.
