This GOT Fan Theory About Who The Night King Really Is Changes Everything

The latest season of Game of Thrones has had fans glued to their screens. Dramatic battles and reunions that have been years in the making are finally coming to the fore, and everyone in Westeros is slowly realizing that Jon Snow was right when he said that the real war was between the living and the dead – including the Mother of Dragons, who’s the greatest ally the living could hope to have when it comes to defeating the Night King.

After being separated in the show’s first season, it’s clear that the Stark children’s relationships with each other will never be the same again after they’ve spent so long journeying through the Seven Kingdoms. Jon’s now King in the North, Sana’s the Lady of Winterfell, Arya’s a faceless man and Bran…

Well, Bran’s something else entirely. He’s now the Three-Eyed Raven – a man with the ability to see everything that is, was and will ever be. So he’s definitely someone Jon would want to have around as he bids to defeat the Night King and the army of the dead. Or is he?!

A Reddit user by the name of turm0il26 has presented a truly insane – yet totally believable theory – about why Brandon Stark is actually the Night King. Now, as someone who’s watched the first five seasons of the show twice, I have to hand it to this fan: they’re a lot more observant than most people…

Cast your mind back to when Bran was taken to the creation of the white walkers by the Bloodraven. They were trying to stop them from being created in the first place, and Bran made the risky decision of inhabiting the guy who becomes the Night King’s body before he’s transformed by the Children of the Forest in season six. He tried to reason with the Children of the Forest, but to no avail. And that’s where turm0il26’s theory comes into play…

Now, getting this close to the future Night King wasn’t exactly the smartest move Bran could have made. But what happens once he’s taken out of his vision when the future Night King is stabbed with dragon glass caused Reddit user turm0il26 to suspect that they’re now the same person…

Bran’s clearly disturbed when he returns to the present, and the conversation he goes on to have with Leaf strongly suggests that there’s now a connection between him and the Night King. That and the fact that he’s grown increasingly inhuman since officially becoming the Three-Eyed Raven.

”You made the white walkers,” Bran says.

”We were at war,” Leaf replies. ”We were being slaughtered. Our sacred trees cut down. We needed to defend ourselves.”

”From who?”

”From you.”

The theory, however, could easily be debunked by the fact that Leaf was referring to people in general and not Bran specifically. But if there’s any truth to it, Jon Snow’s going to be in a very difficult position killing the Night King as it will also mean ending the life of his younger brother.
